Itinerary

Week 1 (7 days): Arrival, Orientation and Tours Dar es Salaam and Coast/Pwani Region

  • Airport pick-up and transfer to the Slipway Hotel, welcome and briefing
  • Transfer to visit Tumaini Children’s Home in Mwandege. Settle in and get to know the staff, children, and local surroundings
  • Morning, afternoon, or evening volunteer (approx. 2 hrs) with toddlers and support for school-aged children
  • Visit Tumaini Friends Pre and Primary School in Mwangede, interact with teachers and tour the school compound
  • Safari & Beach Adventure in Saadani National Park. Nights in an eco-lodge or tented camp. Game drives, beach walks, and wildlife exploration
  • Visit Bagamoyo the former capital of German East Africa and a major port in the East African slave and ivory trade. Visit Kaole Ruins, Old Fort: Originally a slave holding area and later a German colonial prison, German Boma & Historical Museum, Livingstone’s Church: Built in honor of Dr. David Livingstone. Wazaramo Mangrove Boardwalk- A serene walk through mangrove forests rich in biodiversity. Experience Swahili (Zaramo) culture – food, dance and dressing
  • Hiking and Canoeing at Pugu Hills Nature Forest Reserve, farm visits, Swahili culture and cooking experience

Week 2: (5 days): Eco Tourism and Community Volunteering in Morogoro

  • Drive to Morogoro and stay at Edelwyss – a charming Swiss-style mountain lodge
  • Hike into the Uluguru Mountains and Waterfalls
  • Visit Agape Orphanage, a partner institution cooperating with Tumaini Children’s Home
  • Experience the tranquility and cultural heritage of the region
  • Transfer to TANSWISS Lodge and enjoy a Day trip Safari to Mikumi National Park, a possible view of the Big Five
  • Waterfall trek in Udzungwa Mountains National Park, hiking to Sanje Waterfalls, approximately 170 meters (550 feet), the tallest waterfall in Tanzania and East Africa.
  • Stay in guesthouses or at TANSWISS, close to nature and wildlife

Week 3: (10 days): History, Cultural Heritage, and Community Engagement in Iringa

  • Drive to Iringa: Explore bustling local markets and the historic Isimila Stone Age Site
  • Visit the Kalenga Historical Museum that preserves the legacy of Chief Mkwawa and the Hehe resistance against the former German colonial forces
  • Transfer to Kilolo District (1,900M altitude): Stay near our partner school, Kilolo Agape Pre and Primary School (www.kapp.co.tz). Participate in school life and engage in cultural exchange with local students and teachers. Assist with English conversation, creative workshops, or environmental projects. Visit and contribute to tree-planting program
  • Visit a local avocado farm to learn about sustainable agriculture and rural livelihoods
  • Visit the local market and support crafts & local entrepreneurship. Visit Neema Crafts Centre, a social enterprise supporting people with disabilities, offers handmade crafts, a café, and workshops

Week 4: (5 days): Wildlife Safari

  • Return to Iringa town from Kilolo, overnight at Sunset Hotel & Safari in Ruaha, Tanzania’s largest National Park
  • Engage in Safari in the breathtaking Ruaha – Game drives and wildlife observation (Possible view of the Big Five, offers Balloon Safari experience for wildlife viewing
  • Drive back and overnight in Iringa
  • A day drive to Dar es Salaam for Departure

Week 5: (3 days)

  • Final reflections, debriefing, farewell & departure & Transfer to the airport and return flight
  • End of a 30 Days Impact Adventure
 

Extend Your Stay Beyond 30 Days Choose Your Preferred Options

Option 1: (4 days): Mpanga Kipengere Game Reserve, Hiking Experience
  • Explore the Mpanga-Kipengere mountain range, altitude: 1,080–2,858 meters above sea level
  • Hike from waterfall to waterfall and visit a crater lake, (over 40 waterfalls, including the stunning Kimani Waterfall (70m drop)
  • Overnight in rustic eco-lodges or local guesthouses
  • Return via Morogoro to Dar es Salaam for departure

 

Option 2: (5 days): Volunteer Week with Children at StreetKids International
  • Spend another week with the children at Tumaini Children’s Home in Dar es Salaam
  • Support daily routines on child care and support and enjoy a joint South Beach Excursions day with Kids as a farewell in Kigamboni Side of Dar ss Salaam

 

Option 3: (7 days): Safari Blue, Spice and Beach experiences in Zanzibar

Nature & Wildlife

  • Jozani Forest: Home to the rare Zanzibar red colobus monkey and mangrove boardwalks, Mnemba Atoll: A marine conservation area perfect for snorkeling and diving.
  • Butterfly Centre: Near Jozani, supports local farmers and conservation.

 

Cultural & Historical Sites

  • Stone Town: A UNESCO World Heritage Site with narrow alleys, spice markets, and historic buildings like the House of Wonders, Old Fort, and Freddie Mercury’s birthplace).
  • Prison Island (Changuu): A short boat rides from Stone Town, home to Giant Tortoises (with over 100 yrs) and a former Apartheid inmates quarantine station.
  • Spice Tours: Visit plantations to learn about cloves, cardamon cinnamon, and vanilla, black pepper, ginger, turmeric, Nutmeg & Mace. Spice farm walk, village visit, and Swahili food cooking session.
  • Seaweed Center (Mwani Zanzibar): A women-led initiative in Paje producing seaweed-based products.

 

Beach Escapes

  • Nungwi & Kendwa (North), famous for white sands, turquoise waters, and vibrant nightlife. Paje & Jambiani (East) ideal for kitesurfing, beach walks, and laid-back vibes. Kizimkazi (South). known for Dolphin Tours and quiet beaches.
  • Safari Blue Cruise: Full-day dhow sailing with snorkeling, seafood BBQ, and sandbank stops.
  • Sunset Dhow Cruise: Traditional sailing with music and drink.

 

Option 4: (11 days): Wildlife/BigFive, Great Migration, Balloon Safari. Ngorongoro Crater, & Kilimanjaro Mountain
  • Extend your stay and visit the famous Serengeti get (Great Migration, BigFive and Safari Balloon experiences)
  • Ngorongoro Crater and Olduvai Gorge (The Cradle of Humankind) experience
  • Maasai culture experience
  • Climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
